What's happening at the pool? District ChampionshipsThe Pete Ragus Aquatic Center will host the District 3-4A & 2-5A Championships on January 27 & 28. The swimming will begin with prelim heats at noon on Friday, January 27. Following the swimming on Friday, the action will shift to the diving boards. The diving will begin approximately one hour after the swimming. On Saturday, January 28 the swimming finals will take place starting at 11:00 am. Last year, Chris Rodriguez and Ben Jackson helped the Estacado team to a third place finish in the 4A ranks. On the 5A side, Lubbock High girls made it two in a row as they took the girls' title and the Coronado boys finished atop the standing for third straight year.
LISD swimming & diving teams off to great start!One month into the season and LISD has already started making it's mark on the 2011-2012 season.
In the first competition of the year, Lubbock High girls and boys won the annual Lubbock Relays. LISD swimmers set three meet records in the 100 Medley Relay, 100 Free Relay and the 11 dive team event. Coronado girls and boys finished in third place and Monterey just missed a top three trophy finishing in fourth. In all, LISD won 18 of the 22 events. For the LISD diving team, their season started at the Dick Wilson Diving Invitational, Monterey boys won their first invitational in swimming and diving for the first time since the mid 80's. Led by strong performances by Trey Voyles, Ryan Williams and Troy McKinney, the Plainsmen brought home the gold. The JV teams started their season with a big bang by winning five of the six duals meets with Amarillo Caprock and Pampa. On the way to the big team victory, Darby de Hass set two city JV records in the 50 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle. The varsity swim teams first test on the road came in El Paso at the Socorro Invitational. The Lubbock High girls and boys both finished in 3rd place in the team standings. Chris Rodriguez of Estacado broke his own school records from last year in the 200 IM and 100 Fly. LISD swimmers won six events in the meet. Madisyn Cox, LHS, won the 200 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle, Jason Hallier, CHS, won the 100 Fly and 100 Back and LISD won two relays. The Lubbock High girls won the 200 Freestyle Relay (Lindsay Lampkin, Sandy de Haas, Christine Kobza and Madisyn Cox) and the Coronado boys won the 400 Freestyle Relay (Jason Hallier, Nate Hudson, Rob Adams and Cameron Wood). Next up for the varsity team will be the San Angelo Invitational and for the JV teams it will be the Abilene Duals. Lubbock Relays 2011Lubbock swimmers & divers open their season with the annual Lubbock Relays! Fourteen teams from across West Texas will compete in this annual event that dates back to the mid-80's. This meet has a unique format, as all events are relays, including diving. Last year, Lubbock Coronado won the team championship and Lubbock High finished in second place. The one meter diving event will begin at 10:00 am and the three meter event will begin 45 minutes after the conclusion of the one meter competition. The swimming events will begin at 1:30 pm. Admission is $2.00 per adult and free for students.
